The Plaza Theatre was opened October 28, 1960 by National Canadian Theatres on 118 Avenue NW in downtown Edmonton. This twinplex seated 526 in Cinema One and 708 in Cinema Two for a seating total of 1,234. The opening movies were “Goin' Down the Road” starring Doug McGrath and Jackie Gleason in “How Do I Love Thee”

Odeon Theatres (Canada) Ltd. assumed management of the Plaza Theatre in 1978 following the merger of the National Canadian Theatres and Odeon Theatres (Canada) chains, followed by Cineplex Odeon in 1984. The Plaza Theatre closed in 1987 and after going through other uses, the theatre building became an Islamic community centre and mosque called Masjid Quba in 2014.
