The Cine Luxor opened in 1943. Designed by architect Claudio Jose Caveri in a splendid mix of Egyptian interior and a sweeping Art Deco exterior, which had large base-relief panels beneath the marquee/over the entrance doors depicting Egyptian scenes. Seating was provided for 630 in the orchestra, 210 in super pullman (front balcony) and 420 for other pullman (rear balcony).
The Cine Luxor was closed on 18th August 1991 and was demolished to build a galleria shopping centre.
