Lark Drive-In

Viewing: Photo | Street View

This was Ville Platte’s only drive-in. It was located across the street from the Evangeline Club which was a famous dance hall in the 1950’s. The Lark Drive-In was opened around 1953 when it was operated by the Joy Theatres chain. In 1955 it was operated by H.B. Guillory. The screen was destroyed by Hurricane Audrey in June 1957 and the Lark Drive-In was then closed.

The entrance road is now Clarks Lane. The property itself is mostly empty, but there is no trace of the drive-in remaining.

Is the Evangeline club still there?

The Evangeline Club was closed in 1984 and demolished in 1988. Another old club was called Snooks Bar. It was located on the corner of Snooks Rd. and Main St. It can be seen in the aerial photo. It was lost to a fire I think in the late 90s.
