W.J. Helvey and Charles B. Laune launched the Laune Theatre in the existing Temple Building on July 11, 1934. The Temple Building had previously held Montgomery Ward’s followed by J.C. Penney’s. The theatre was short-lived closing on December 27, 1934. On February 9, 1935, the location reopened as the Rialto Theatre with “The Westerner” starring Tim McCoy. The Rialto Theatre closed on January 31, 1940.

The location was called the New Isis Theatre briefly thereafter though the majority of the Isis Theatre’s history was in its Center Street location.
