Plaza Cinema

Located in Manningtree, Essex. The Cinema Theatre was said to been a conversion of a factory building. It opened in the mid-1920’s and by 1926 it had been re-named Cinema. It had a 21ft wide proscenium. The stage was 10ft deep and there were two dressing rooms. It became part of the local Tozer & Linsell circuit and by 1933 it was operated by Philip J. Cleife.

By 1934 it was operated by the Lawford Cinema Company and had been re-named Plaza Cinema. It was equipped with a MPA sound system. By 1937 it was part of the E. Owen Cooper Theatres chain who modernised the cinema at that time.

The Plaza Cinema was still open in 1959, but had closed by 1962. It had been demolished and housing has been built on the site.
