Jerry Lewis Cinema

For Canandaigua residents, 1972 was challenging when it lost its only functional movie theatre, the Playhouse which had just turned 50 before being razed for a bank. Bar-Pel Enterprises decided to add to its Rib Pit and Golfland amusement area this automated Jerry Lewis Cinema. The theatre launched January 17, 1973 with “Pete ‘n’ Tillie” and appears to have run through a ten-year lease. The entire complex was razed for a Wegmen’s Grocery Store and new post office.
