Colonial Theatre

Located at the rear of the Taylor Hotel building which was built in 1847. The Colonial Theatre was attached to the hotel and is said to have opened in 1921 on the rear second & third floors of the building with orchestra and balcony seating. It was not listed in Film Daily Yearbooks until 1927. The Colonial Theatre was closed in 1939.

The theatre was never used again after closing, but a five & dime retail use occupied part of the hotel from 1918 to 1993.

On October 25, 2007 the roof of the Colonial Theatre collapsed due to heavy rain and the building was demolished (apart from the stage house) by the City in either 2009 or 2010. The hotel portion was saved by the City and the City created a pocket amphitheatre park where the Colonial Theatre once stood. The stage house wall of the theatre was saved which forms a backdrop for the amphitheatre.
