Boxoffice, May 4, 1940: “Harry Tanner’s new Roseland has opened. The seating capacity is 900 and cost $100,000.”

Just curious: Does this theater now have digital projection?

Sadly, Bill Horton, the most recent owner of the theater passed away March 4th, 2009 after a battle with lung cancer. Mr. Horton owned the theater along with his wife, Selma. As of this date, the Century projectors, carbon arc lamphouses and 2k changeover system in the above youtube video are still being used. I have been told that the theater will continue operating, but with new management.

Found this home video clip of the Bill Horton projectionist at the Roseland since the 1950’s still striking the carbons and running a change over booth.

In 1980, the Roseland was part of the Tanner Circuit, Herman Tanner president and GM. Mr. Tanner also ran the Tanner Drive-In in Pana at that time. There was another Tanner Drive-In in Vandalia, IL as well.
