Amherstburg’s first purpose-built movie theatre, the Liberty Theatre opened on August 18, 1919. It closed for four weeks in 1930 for renovations and the installation of sound equipment, re-opening on July 30, 1930.
More extensive renovations were carried out in 1937 by the theatre’s last owner, W. S. Woof, who operated the Liberty Theatre until its closing on December 30, 1961. The theatre was converted into retail space in 1965.
