Queens Cinema

Located in Kidsgrove, Staffordshire, near Stoke-on-Trent at the corner of Liverpool Road and Valentine Road (which is there no longer). This was a conversion of a factory which had closed around 1911 or 1912. In mid-1913 it opened as the Victoria Picture Hall (near to the still existing Victoria Hall). In July 1919 it was re-named Valentine Cinema. Around 1931 it was equipped with an Edibell sound system.

In 1937 it was taken over by the Miles Jervis Cinemas chain and a British Talking Pictures(BTP) sound system was installed. A new 25ft wide proscenium was also constructed. It was lated re-named Rex Cinema and CinemaScope was installed in 1954, screening on a 40ft wide screen. It was sold by Miles Jervis in 1964 and new owners re-named it Queens Cinema.

The Queens Cinema was closed on 30th January 1971 with “My Dog, the Thief”. It was demolished in 1976.
