Fort Rouge Theatre

This early movie theatre was once located in what is now known as Winnipeg’s “Confusion Corner”. Erected in 1912, it was owned and operated by confectioner Jonas Jonasson, who lived next door. The theatre closed around 1924 and the building was subsequently used by the Salvation Army before being demolished.

This image was on a postcard posted in 1913 by the owner to a friend in Pine Valley, Manitoba. The front of the theatre was a confectionery selling chocolates, tobacco, etc. The two films showing on the easels are “Mary Stuart” (Released 1913) and “Objections Overruled” (Released 1912).
