Built by the Henry Estate and first operated by Gertrude (Mrs. William) Gappinger, the Star Theatre opened in the small and shrinking town of Avilla in March, 1915. The theatre was out of business by 1926. The Star Theatre was the first known theatre project designed by Fort Wayne architect Alvin M. Strauss.
