Located in Shotton Colliery, County Durham. The Empire Electric Theatre was opened in February 1911. It had a 30ft wide proscenium and presented films and variety shows. Around 1918 it was re-named Empire Theatre and closed in the mid-1920’s. It reopened in 1930 as the Empire Cinema and had been equipped with a British Talking Pictures(BTP) sound system and was operated by the E.J. Hinge Circuit. The Empire Cinema was closed in 1967 and has been demolished.
