This was a short-lived operation in what was once called King’s Shopping Plaza though later renamed to Granite Plaza in Braintree. The theatre launched as Carrolls Cinema Twin Plaza I & II on December 25, 1970 with the films, “Bird with the Crystal Plumage” and “Airport.” The cinema was originally operated by Carrols Equities Corp.

Carrols Equities Corp. created what it considered a unique, automated twin-screen movie theatre design. With cushioned, rocker chairs and minimal employees needed, the business plan seemed solid. The plan was the backbone of a cinema chain within Carrols' diverse portfolio hoping to challenge aging single-screen theaters in targeted markets and expanding to suburbs not oversaturated with contemporary theatres. Unlike the similar concept by Jerry Lewis Cinemas, Carrols would operate their theaters hoping to sell out the theaters to established operators or just run them, themselves. Where Jerry Lewis Cinemas were originally designed to be family friendly, Carrols would show R and some infrequent X-rated fare.

This is where Carrols ran into problems in Braintree. On February 3, 1972, the cinema booked the X-rated, “Cry Uncle”. Acting on a single complaint, the film was confiscated twenty minutes into the showing. Groups including the Catholic Women’s Club, Morality in the Media and others got on the bandwagon which dimmed the theater’s chances. A $1,000 fine was paid and Carrols sold the theatre to Loew’s which renamed it the Loew’s Twin Cinema on May 26, 1972. The theatre appears to have closed on December 31, 1972 after a showing of “Deliverance”. The space was later refitted for other retail purposes.
