Hammond Twin Outdoor

I saw a triple feature of “The Empire Strikes Back,” “Flash Gordon” and “My Bodyguard” here. I remember that Bo Derek’s “Tarzan” was on the other screen so needless to say we missed some of “Empire” to see the “good” scenes.

Actually the Kmart, Burger King and a Howard Johnson’s were already there if I remember right. I think the old Builders Square and Warehouse Club, which are behind kmart was the Hammond Twin’s location.

Now there is really nothing where the Drive-In use to be. It is virtually a wasteland. That part of Hammond in that same state, with K-mart and the Burger King that was there are now gone. I remember going there a few times when I was young, but forgot the movies I saw there. There is really no sign of the Drive-In movie theatre. The Builders Square & Buyer’s Club are long gone for many years now. The only things there now are a DMV, Military Recruiting office, and a Medical Supply place where Buyer’s Club was. It is pretty sad when they say Hammond is a beautiful city, but they might want to open their eyes! That land is going to waste just like the rest of the city! Sorry to complain, but it was once nice in the good old days!

I have discovered that the Hammond opened in June of 1970 and not the mid 60’s as I listed above. It’s premiere attraction was “Romeo and Juliet.”
