The Star Theatre appears to have launched in 1916 in downtown Teague. Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Covington ran the Star Theatre beginning in 1922. On May 31, 1929, they equipped it for sound.

The theatre was bought by the Long Theaters circuit in 1939. Long gave the theatre a Streamline Moderne style makeover. In 1946, a new, rival theatre was built across the street opening in 1947 which was the Lee Theatre. Long Theaters bought out the Lee Theatre in 1948 and continued operating the Star Theatre at least into 1949.

The Teague Chronicle of March 8, 1945 had advertised “Gypsy Wildcat” playing at The Star.
