Opened prior to 1914 on the corner of Main Street and Oak Street, across from the Tracy Hotel, by Jack & William Tracy. Later operated by Mr. & Mrs. John O'Conner. The Gem Theatre was still open in 1957. Believed to have been demolished in the 1960’s.

Today the site is the City Of Platteville Oak Street Parking Lot #4.

Correction: Across from the Tracy Hotel, but still operated by Jack & William Tracy originally.

Mr. & Mrs. John O'Conner mentioned above, apparently also managed the nearby Avalon Theatre at one time.

The Gem Theatre at Platteville is listed in the 1914-1915 American Motion Picture Directory. A second house called the Lyric Theatre was also listed.
