The Apollo Theater was located on the S.W. corner of Clay and Richmond Streets (now the intersection of Clay and the Chrysler Freeway southbound service drive). When I attended in the early and mid-1950s,it was a very active and popular theater as a Saturday afternoon hangout for young neighborhood teens and juniors, and a very popular place for adults and older teens on Friday and Saturday evenings, and on Sunday afternoons after church. Feature films were shown everyday, but weekends were the theater’s most active time. In those days, going to the show and meeting up with friends from school was a routine thing.
