Opened on February 28, 1986, Sterling Recreation Organization, the Bellevue-based owner of the Liberty Theater remodeled an old high school gymnasium into a movie theater to compete with the the Plaza Twin and Poplar Street Cinemas.

Soon after, Sterling Recreation sold to Cineplex Odeon. Cineplex Odeon did not operate the cinema for long with the company selling the Jefferson Park theater to Ray Hallett of Hallett Cinemas in 1988.

In or around 1990, Plitt Amusements took over operations at Jefferson Park Cinemas until their bankruptcy in January 1999. Ray Hallett maintained ownership of the property and made an attempt to reopen however all theater operations ceased when Hallett moved all operations to the new 12-screen Grand Cinemas in March 2000.
