Electric Theatre

The Electric Theatre was opened on 15th October 1910. It was operated by Associated Electric Theatres Ltd. Designed by London based architect Gerald Seymour Valentin, it had a white terracotta facade and beautiful plaster mouldings and panels in the auditorium. It was equipped with two Tyler ‘Imperator’ projectors. Afternoon teas were served free of charge from 2:30pm to 5:00pm.

The Electric Theatre was still open in 1927, but was soon to close as a silent cinema. It was never equipped for ‘talkies. It has since been demolished and in 2018 the Walkthrough Bar which had operated on the site had closed.
