The unincorporated village of Mildred in Cherry Township, Pennsylvania was served by a silent-era theatre, the Tate Theatre, and a sound-era theatre, the Mildred Theatre. Louis and Jennie Gatta launched the latter theatre in the summer of 1929. In addition to sound films, the Mildred Theatre hosted school plays and other local events. The theatre was also called the Mildred Community Theater as it hosted many local events.

During World War II, the theatre regularly promoted bond drives and had free screenings with donations for the War effort. The Gatta’s son, George, operated the venue much of its existence. That ended on February 4, 1953 when an oil furnace in a neighboring restaurant exploded and gutted the theater. That ended the theater’s operation and it has since been demolished.

From comments on the Our Sullivan County Facebook page, it was across from the fire station at Main Street (today PA-487) and School Road. Images added credit Our Sullivan County Facebook page.
