Tivoli Theater

Located in the city centre. The 300-seat Tivoli Theater was opened on 11th November 1954 and was operated by Fritz and Gustav Pressmer KG. They also operated the Filmtheater am Sendlinger Tor (which has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The E VII B projectors were by Ernemann. A 4-channel stereophonic sound sytem by Klangfilm was installed. The seats were by Schroeder & Henzelmann. The Walt Disney ‘True Life Adventure’ “The Living Desert” was the first film screened and was a big hit with 15,598 tickets sold. Other hits were “La Strade with 130,535 tickets sold, "Out of Africa 147,848 tickets sold, "When Harry met Sally” with 131,271 tickets sold and “Amadeus” with 245,000 tickets sold in 64 weeks. Many actors were guests at the Tivoli Theater including Guiletta Masina, Hans Albers, Ruth Leuwerik, Theo Lingen, Karlheinz Bohm, Marika Roekk, Therese Giese, Mario Adorf, Heinz Ruehmann, Tony Curtis, Romy Schneider and Vittoria de Sica. In 2005 the seating capacity was reduced to 213. The Tivoli Theater was closed after 56 years and 9 million moviegoers on 16th January 2011 and was demolished.
