Paramount & Studio Paramount

The Mondial Cinema was opened on 12th November 1920 and was designed by architect M. Dalmas. Seating was provided for 800. It was modernised in 1954 to the plans of architect M. Marcel Guilgot. From 18th September 1978 it began screening exploitation films. On 20th December 1967 it began a run of its final film “Asterix- le Gaulois” which ended on 9th January 1968 when the cinema closed.

It was gutted internally and plans were drawn by architect Georges Peynet to create a twin cinema, which opened on 19th December 1968 as the Paramount with 700-seats (450 in orchestra & 250 in mezzanine balcony) and the 350-seat Studio Paramount. The opening films were “Asterix et Cleopatre” in the Paramount and Leonard Whiting & Olivia Hussey in “Romeo and Juliet” in the Paramount Studio. The Paramount was equipped to screen 70mm films. The Paramount & Studio Paramount were closed in 1987 and were converted into a CIC Bank.
