Located in the city centre, the Town Hall was built in 1857. In the early-1900’s it had occasional one-day film shows. On 25th July 1910 the upper floor of the building was taken over by Leon Vint and opened as Vint’s Electric Palace of Varieties, screening films and presenting varity acts. By 1914 it had been renamed Electric Palace.

By 1915 Leon had been declared bankrupt and new operators took over and it was renovated and re-named Rugby Palace Cinema. It suffered substantial damage by a fire on 30th January 1921 and it never reopened. It was converted into a Woolworth’s store
