Shamrock Drive-In

Manager Darrel Richardson was the main operator of the Shamrock Drive-In.

This seasonal (April to November) theatre was originally set to open on April 1, 1955 but it was postponed and later pushed 6 days later to its grand opening day on April 7, 1955 with various short subjects for free at 6:30 PM. A day later on the 8th, its first feature the Shamrock Drive-In played is the 1954 20th Century Fox film “Garden Of Evil” starring Gary Cooper, Richard Widmark and Susan Hayward.

It was still in operation in 1973, but the closing date is unknown.

The Shamrock was owned by Mr & Mrs Ermel L O'Hern. C A Crouch purchased the Drive-In May 5, 1976. Crouch also owned the Star and El-co in Shattuck, OK. The Shamrock was located 1 mile north of town, possibly at the intersection of US 283 and E0190 Road.

A 1973 topo map shows a drive-in at the intersection of US-283 and E0200 Road, Laverne, OK.

The drive-in sat on the SW corner of the intersection. Today, General Inc. Oil Field Services occupies the property. There is no trace of the drive-in remaining.

I Can Only Find A Few Articles From The 1955-1962 Era Of This Drive-In Off Of The Newspapers Website. So There’s Not A Lot Of Information As I Posted This. They Already Had A CinemaScope Screen At The Time The Opening Was Made In 55.
