Located in Billinge, to the southwest of Wigan, Lancashire. The Empress Cinema was opened in the late-1920’s. It was a very spartan building, constructed out of old World War I era corrugated iron. In the 1930’s it was equipped with a Morrison sound system. By 1947 it was equipped with a Wenzell sound system. It was operated by W.L. Sager & T. Wane who were based in Heskin, near Chorley. The Empress Cinema was still open in 1953, but had closed by 1954.
