Strand Theatre

Opened as Strand Theatre on 3rd April 1920 on site of old mill. Renamed Palais De Dance in circa 1928. Closed in 1935. Renamed Strand Dance Palais and used for other entertainments(boxing etc). Movies started again in 1937, and renamed Strand Theatre. 1,230-seats(1937 to 1939). 602-seats(1940 to 1944). It was operated by Western Cinemas Pty. Ltd. 1,230 seats(1945 to 1955). Renamed Strand Palais in 1957. 718-seats(1957 to 1961). Renamed Strand Theatre in 1966. Closed in circa 1966. May have reopened briefly in 1970? Used as a skating rink(roller or ice?). Then used as a furniture showroom and storage(name unknown?) in 1980’s. The exterior has been heritage listed. The interior was gutted(date unknown?) except for the proscenium. The building is a pawnbrokers(EzyCash Pawnbrokers).
