Leo Electric Cinema

Located in south London at the northern border with New Cross, close to the railway bridge on Old Kent Road at the corner of Leo Street. A conversion of a furniture shop, the Leo Picture Palace was opened in 1912 and could accommodate 121 persons sitting on long wooden benches. Its programme was 45 minutes long, screened continuously for a 1 Penny admission charge. Later re-named Leo Electric Cinema, it was closed in 1926.

It reverted back to use as a furniture shop, which lasted until the late-1960’s. The adjacent row of shops and buildings were demolished sometime after 1973. A car park for an Aldi supermarket now occupies the site.
