MGM Theater

Located in the Charlottenburg district of central west Berlin at the corner of Kurfurstendamm and 36 Bleibtreustrasse. The MGM Theater opened on 7th December 1956 it was advertised as MGM Theater - Fenster zur Welt (Window to the World). It was a modern cinema designed by architect Gerhard Fritsche, who also designed other Berlin cinemas such as the Zoo Palast, Maxim Moabit and the Astor Filmlounge. Seating was provided in orchestra and balcony levels. The cinema was operated by Metro Goldwyn Mayer Film AG. The E X projectors were by Ernemann and a 4-channel stereophonic sound system was installed. In 1959 two Norelco Phillips DP 70 projectors for 70mm & 35mm were added.

In 1977 the MGM Theater was closed and it was demolished to build an apartment building with shops at street level.
