Carcroft Cinema

Located in Carcroft, to the north of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, at the corner of High Street and Park Avenue. The picture Theatre was opened on 1st August 1924. It was a brick building with terracotta dressings on the exterior. It was designed by architect J. Blythe Richardson. Seating was provided for 667 in the stalls and 200 in the circle. Around 1929 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. It was independently operated though its cinematic life. The picture Theatre was still open in 1958, but had closed by 1963.

It was converted into a bingo club. In the mid-1970’s it was taken over by Brian Megson who spent two years converting it into the Carcroft Cinema. It was still open in August 1977 but had closed by 1980.

The building has since been demolished as a Iceland supermarket now stands on the site.
