The Palace Pier was opened on 20th May 1899 and the Palace Pier Theatre was located at the seaward end of the pier. The pier & theatre were designed in a Moorish style by architect Richard St George Moore. In the early years it presented films as one of its attractions.
The Palace Pier Theatre closed in 1973 and was demolished in 1986/1987. Fairground amusement rides now occupy the site.
