The Crown Theatre opened in 1936 originally seating 632. The Crown opened as the Savoy theatre and was part of the Wehrenberg chain. It was located in the heart of the shopping district in downtown Ferguson.
A long time mainstay of the Wehrenberg chain, in 1966, the theatre was completely gutted and remodeled by Wehrenberg and they started a first run policy. This lasted until the neighborhood changed and the shopping district gradually dwindled to just a few shops.
The Crown closed in 1993 and today the building is home to a banquet hall.

Looking at the far left of the picture of the Crown, it looks like something shaped like a W…or maybe a crown…is on the roof. Was that true or am I just a victim of wishful thinking? :)
Wishful thinking – that’s part of the sign of the neighboring business which was set back from the street.
