The Kuhl Ave. Drive-In opened on September 20, 1949, based on its advertisements in the Orlando Evening Star. Its first movie was “Once More, My Darling,” starring Robert Montgomery. The address on the advertisement was 2400 Kuhl Avenue, but aerial photos place the site just east of the railroad tracks on Grant Street.
The 1959 Motion Picture Almanac listed the “Kuhls Ave. Drive-In” with 450 cars and 160 seats, owner J. Partlow. That was Jim Partlow, who said in early-1960 that the construction of I-4 was causing problems.
A 2002 aerial photo showed the ramps and concession building intact, but it was replaced by a Target by 2010.
