This aerial view of of “The New Palace Theatre” shows the narrow frontage on to Dalton Square which opens out to a huge bulk occupying the former space of several rear gardens, part of two terraces of dwellings and two alleys.

The view is dated 1929, the Palace opened 8 July 1929; and the shining newness of the building is stark against the weathered buildings of this old town. Presumably the bright finish was (partly) to do with the rights to light for all those properties blighted by that large edifice at their rears.
