The Cedar Rapids Gazette reported the opening of the Town Theatre April 19, 1947. There was a Town Theatre in Cedar Rapids but apparently unrelated.
On January 18, 1950, as published in the Gazette, L.B. Heaton complained to the Linn County board of supervisors that his theatre was going to be taxed out of existence. The valuation of the theatre had been raised from $3,000 to $10,000 in a year.
Leo Heaton is mentioned numerous Times in the Gazette as operator of the Marion and Twixt Town theatres in Marion.
The Central City Historical Society Facebook displays a photo of the Town Theatre, and notes it was operated by Mr. and Mrs. John Heaton until 1958. The building still exists downtown without the marquee.
Film Daily Year Book 1951 lists the Town Theatre with 260 seats.
