The Crystal Theatre turned Peru Theatre had a 40-plus year run in diminutive Peru, Nebraska’s downtown. It opened on January 19, 1912 as a silent movie house with the positioning statement, “The Home of Good Things in the Picture Line”. The Crystal Theatre transitioned to sound films to remain viable.

The venue received a Streamline Moderne style makeover reopening as the Peru Theatre on September 30, 1935 under the new management of August Hanson. The opening film was Buddy Rogers in “Old Man Rhythm”. The theatre closed at the end of a 20-year leasing period on May 29, 1955 with Randolph Scott in “The Stranger Wore a Gun”. The building was then sold and converted for other retail purposes.
