Electric Theatre

Located in Trench, one of the original villages that now make up the conurbation of the new town of Telford, in Shropshire, an undated photograph of this building, as a Spar supermarket, held in the Cinema Theatre Association Archive, is endorsed on the reverse “Trench & District Electric Theatre”.

Unfortunately, there is no record of this cinema in the Kinematograph Year Books or other directories. An internet source says only that the Electric Theatre opened in 1917 and, by either 1937 or 1941, the building was known as Trench Billiard Hall.

This would indicate an early cinema that did not survive the transition to sound.

By the time I visited, in July 2022, the building was home to Telford Tanning @ The Sun Lounge at the front, with flats at the rear.
