Was operated by Bijou Amusement Co. fron the mid-1940’s until its closing in the 1950’s.

The Gem Theatre is listed in Film Daily Yearbook editions between 1940 and 1955 as a Negro theatre. It had a seating capacity of 558.

The Gem theater was still a “colored” theater in 1939 as evidenced by this November 1939 photo from the Library of Congress.
