Located the north Manchester district of Blackley on the border with Harpurhey. The 700-seat Blackley Empire Theatre was opened by Blackley Empire Theatre Ltd. in 1913. Around 1929 it was equipped with a British Acoustic (BA) sound system.

In November 1937 plans were prepared by architect Herbert Aloysius Yearsley to enlarge the cinema by building over the existing cinema. The seating capacity in the new building was 995-seats. By 1944 it was operating with a British Talking Pictures (BTP) sound system. By 1953 it had been taken over by the Snape & Ward circuit and was operating as the Empire Cinema and had a British Thomson-Houston (BTH) sound system. By 1958 it was operated by Fourways Cinema Ltd. with films booked by G.B. Snape. The Empire Cinema was closed on 12th March 1960 with Gary Cooper in “The Story of Dr. Wassell”. It has been demolished.
