Crystal Theatre

This early theatre appears on the 1908 Sanborn, in the northern storefront of a large 3-story brick commercial building, which had been constructed sometime after 1901, replacing an old hotel.

This would have been a narrow space, and was likely a very basic early attempt to cash in on the movie craze. It had closed by 1914, when the map shows a clothing store there.

Sometime in the 1950’s or later, the third floor was removed and the façade replaced. This portion of the building became a location of the Jewel Box chain of jewelry stores, and is currently vacant. The historical address was 319.
