One of two theatres in Australia converted to Cinerama in 1958. A result of the conversion was the 75ft wide screen covering the original proscenium. Seating was also reduced to 1,017. The second Cinerama theatre was located in Melbourne also called the Plaza Theatre with smaller but almost identical architecture to the Sydney edifice.
