This small, short-lived theater opened around 1940 as the Esquire on the corner of Illinois and Chicago Streets. By the late 40s, it was renamed the Plains Theater. It closed in the mid-50s, and later was razed to make way for a church.

The Esquire Theater opened in 1941, and closed in 1950 (renamed the Plains for a short time before it closed). On its site today is a bank, the church is across Illinois Street. The church has stood there since the 1800s.
