Movies On Main, back for our 4th season of outdoor movies show on the wall of the Lyric Theater. Planning for a GREAT season, starting up with “UP” June 2nd 9 pm ish, Stop by and have a nice relaxing night at the movies!
Just uploaded a few more photos mostly from our town’s museum. Thanks to Judy Pate for supplying me with them. There’s also a very cool “Night” shot from just after one of our “Movies On Main” showing last week.
The Movies On Main program is back for the summer of 2011. This year sponsored by the City of Flatonia, with each movie being sponsored by a movie loving donor. If you are in the area on friday night at sundown, feel free to stop by and enjoy a great movie under the stars. Check out the current showings on the Lyric Theater’s facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lyric-Theater/274919382438
Feel free to “LIKE” us there!

August 21, 2009, marks the end of the Lyric’s second successful “Movies On Main” program. This is an outdoor series of films shown in the empty lot next door, onto a screen painted on side of the Lyric.
Hopefully this fall when it gets just a little cooler the clean up / out of the Lyric can start. This will allow interior renovations to begin, and its going to take a lot.
James, you have no contact info, and I’ve been by there 3 times in June, and no one is ever around. I’d like to take some photos for the group.
Another photo of the Lyric is here.
Sorry guys, stopped by today right after 4:00, waited until close to 5:00. Never got in, no one was around… Maybe some other time.
I have to go to San Antonio tomorrow morning, then to Houston, I’ll be driving right by in the afternoon. I’ll stop and take some photos if anyone is interested. Even if you’re not, I’ll take some anyways.
To all the wonderful photographers, please feel free to stop next door at the cabinet shop and say “HOWDY” I’d be happy to give you an inside tour of the Lyric.
I am the current owner and starting in June, along with the Chamber of Commerce we will be bringing an old tradition back by showing outdoor movies from June through August. June will be John Wayne month featuring 4 of his films — The Cowboys (June 5th) , The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (June 12th) , The Sons of Katie Elder ( June 19th) and finally True Grit (June 26th). These are free movies shown outdoors in the empty lot next door.

Closeup of the marquee, and and even closer closeup…
So should Happy Hour Theatre be an AKA?

According to the Chamber of Commerce website, “The old, historic Lyric Theatre, which has been closed for years, has recently been purchased and will be historically renovated. As theatres in the past, it will have a stage and a balcony and will be used as a movie theatre. Plans are to make it where it can also be converted to be used as a dinner theatre. We are all so excited to have our theatre back! Keep checking back with us for the opening date.”
A 2008 photo of the Lyric can be seen here.
Here is a recent photo.
This is another photo of the Lyric.
In 1955, the Lyric had 225 seats.
I’d like to see some pictures of the inside of this theater, including projection booth.
Look for more recent and some really old photos of the Lyric on MySpace, since we can’t upload new photos here, I created a page on MySpace temporarily. View link If this link doesn’t work , just search for LyricTheater and you should be able to locate us, until I can get a proper website up and running for it.
Good news, the marquee is about to get repaired, including new transformers and its letter “C” replaced, this should get done in time for the Annual Czhilispiel on Oct 26th, 27th, and 28th 2007.
Good news for this one, I just completed the purchase and now doing the research before starting the renovation. Unfortunately the previous attempt was dreadful, so a lot of tear-out before anything can get started.
Also the entire community appears to be behind getting this project off the ground and completed this time. So wish me luck and feel free to send along any advice.
Here is a recent photo of the Lyric Theater and this is a close-up of the marquee.
