Here is a photo of the Fallon Theater.
The Rex theater opened Dec. 30, 1920. It was built on the same site of another theater also called the Rex. This Rex theater was built by J.W. Flood as a vaudeville and silent-movie house, the Rex had seating for 1,150 people. In 1930, the Rex theater was rebuilt to handle “talkies.†It was given sloped floors and seating was reduced to 550.
In 1939, there was a fire in the theater’s northeast corner. That was repaired. It also survived a second fire in the 1940s. Then an earthquake in 1954 caused minor damage, but provided an opportunity to install a wider screen. In 1979 the theater became a twin and seating was reduced again to its current seating of 304 seats. A wall was built in the middle and a new projection booth installed for the front theater. A new screen was added for the back theater. The Fallon is the longest continually operating movie theater in Nevada.
