I worked as an usher at the Capri from 1975 until 1979. During that time we showed movies such as “Jaws”, “Midway”, and “Smokey and the Bandit”, just to mention a few. They mostly showed movies produced by Universal Studios. From 1980 until 1982 I was the theatre manager.
The Capri was a small single screen movie house. But that is what made in so great. One thing I remember most was when Sensorround was used. It was used for “Earthquake”. It made the theatre shake. UA wanted to use a bigger theater but they were all multi screens. So they used the Capri.

Does anyone know the full history of this theatre? Prior to the Capri, it was known as the Lido, and before that as the Walton, which might have been the original name.

The current store at this address is listed as a clothing store called Easy Pickins. According to NYC records, the building at this address today has a build date of 1912. I read that “A Theater” opened in 1913 at this address, but the name wasn’t given. By 1926 this theater was operating as the Walton theater.
I was a projectionist at the Capri from 1975 until it closed in 1986.
Unlike most theaters, there was no access to the booth from inside the theater. The outside booth entrance was in an alley and up a flight of stairs.
Other Sensurround features we ran included “Midway” and “Roller Coaster”. We played “Jaws” for nearly five months.
Hey Glen, if you see this, contact me.
Here is an undated photo of the Lido Theater.
Isn’t this theater a duplicate of this theater:
