The Newton Theatre opened May 15, 1924, with 1,000 seats. In 2002, a 2/9 Robert-Morton pipe organ was installed, as the original one was long gone. Built for the small town of Newton, this now-twinned theatre showed films until it closed on 21st October 2007.

Renovations were carried out and the Newton Theatre was reopened on May 16, 2008 screening first run and classic movies. Sadly in was closed by Majestic-Star Entertainment in September 2010. Purchased by new owners in spring of 2011, it was restored back to its single screen configuration, and re-opened as a performing arts center on September 9, 2011 with a performance by Todd Rundgren.

Since Nelson Page took over, has anything been changed since the last time I went there? I hope they installed digital sound in both screens and improved the projection and snacks.

Projection has been tuned and tweaked. No current plans for digital projection or sound. ‘Snacks’ contain the best fresh-popped popcorn in the tri-state area, sharing the award with the Lafayette and Cedar Lane :) . Official website: www.bigscreenclassics.com

Sad to see it go. What a shame. I wonder if it will become retail or a performing arts building, which newton really needs although SCCC has an auditorium in its building.

Hello all, we are in the process of re-opening the theatre, converting it back to a single screen, and will be presenting concerts, comedy, dance, and film. Thanks for all the kind comments!

Ur Welcome….will recent movies be shown at this theater, and how much will it cost for concerts, events, and movies?

Just saw a concert by Graham Parker and the Rumour on friday night. It was awesome!!! The acoustics of this theater were ok but not as good as say radio city or other big venues. Seating is improved inside the theater and it was crowded.
