Added 5 new pics taken today, of the former Town Plaza in its current state.

I only saw the two original auditoriums, I guess the three added on in ‘83 were off to the east side?

I see what looked like a doorway off of the east wall, that was “expanded” during the demolition…

Should be listed as closed, closed in 2011.

It’s closed for good now.

Went by there today; they’re gutting the building. I picked up four screens and 15 surround speakers that were headed for the dumpster. Chairs are getting tossed tomorrow. I suppose Cape is a one-theater town now.

I imagine an independent will pick it up. The Cape West will become the only game in town and with Cape Girardeau being a college town that’s more or less isolated, a second theatre would make sense.

It could reopen as a second-run house.

Has anyone heard anything about the future of the theater after it closes?

Went there two days ago, and the presentation was fair but certainly not great. Staff seemed joyful?

What looks to be the final engagements in the theatre’s history: Courageous, J. Edgar, Jack and Jill, Sarah’s Key, The Thing and The Way (the last two playing on the same screen).

It was between 1984-1985 when the theater expanded to 5 screens.

I dont know if it has a bright future ahead, but they recently have aquired more high-profile movies recently. Such as
Gran Torino
The Unborn
Quantum Of Solace
Four Christmases
Marley and Me
Taken
Race To Witch Mountain
Madea Goes To Jail
Knowing
The Haunting In Connecticut
Obeserve and Report.
All of these films have been screened here, or are now being shown here. I havent been there since 2006, however. That was when I saw the Pink Panther.

Originally opened as a twin in 1973. Expanded to 5 screens sometime in the 1980’s. Has recently had DTS Digital sound installed. This theater appears to have a bright future ahead of it.
