roberttoplin above is correct. The Abbott Theater closed on February 24, 1968 with “Wait Until Dark”. After remodeling, it opened again April 12, 1968 as the Towne Theater with “No Way to Treat a Lady”.

I had an uncle that lived near the Bailey-South Park-Abbott triangle split and I don’t recall that a theatre was ever there.

There was also another “Abbott” Theatre, located at 1298 Abbott near Ridge Rd. It opened Oct.19,1950 and was designed by Louis Greenstein. It was later changed to the “Towne” Theatre. Now Demolished.

Lost Memory: I see on your profile you have several drive-ins listed and 2 of them are in Jamestown NY and Dunkirk NY!

I drove by that intersection of South Park and Bailey Avenue countless times and there is absolutely no hint that the building had a former life as a theater. It must have been a small theater since the laundromat that’s there now is not huge.

Lost Memory: Thanks for the photo website as I just looked at it. I’ve been looking to see what other Buffalo theatres existed years ago.
