Century Theatre London was originally built and operated by Loew’s Theatres — it was quite ornate. Nat Taylor’s Twinex Century Theatres (a Famous Player partner) took it over in 1964 and made it into two fairly nice theatres. The smaller theatre (The Little Century) was a bit too shotgun in its approach for me. Mike Rogers and TS Loews I just want you guys to know that I hung around and knew this one very well!!

Thanks for the post Mike I had forgotten about this one, old age is setting in I guess. Love the photo of the Loews London, in Canada of all places. By the way do you ever save any photos on your computer?

This was the sister theatre to Windsor Ontarios Capitol which is on the endangered list.

I’ve removed the two photos that I displayed above on 7/16/07 since they can just as easily be viewed at the following website, which is essential for anyone doing research on Ontario theatres. I try to reserve my scrapbook for material that is otherwise unavailable on the internet:

All of the nearly 2,000 seats were on the ground floor, which was unusual for a Thomas Lamb theatre of this size:

This site, which talks about primarily the Capitol Theatre in Windsor (originally the Loew’s Windsor), says that Lamb’s design of the Loew’s London/Century was very similar to the Capitol/Loew’s Windsor, as well as to the Capitol in Brantford, ON, the Capitol in Winnipeg, and the Pantages in Hamilton, all designed by Lamb.

This theatre was originally designed by Thomas Lamb, and opened as the Loew’s London Theatre.
