The Folly, originally Philip Foto’s Folly, opened in 1915 in the Algiers section of New Orleans on Opelousas Street. In its early days, the Folly presented live stage shows and vaudeville in addition to movies, as well as hosting civic events. Its theatrical days ended in the 50s, but the former Folly is wonderfully preserved and in use today as a church.

Here is a late 40s view of Willow Street, with the vertical sign of the Poplar visible behind the trolley car.
The 1945 Film Daily Yearbook shows the Folly seating 1830.
The Metropolitan Tabernacle Church is currently located in the former Folly Theater. This is a recent photo of the Church:

Closed in 1961. Originally part of the Saenger Amusement Co. and later operated by United Theatres until its closing in 1961.
Interesting design – a long, narrow and low building – obviously all seating on one level – looks like it could have been a large ballroom originally – there are filled-in windows on the side.
